Admission Requirements

By Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Candidate for admission into Law Faculties of Nigerian Universities must possess at least S.S.S. certificate or G.C.E. O' Level with credit passes in five (5) subjects, including English Language and English Literature obtained in not more than two sittings. Such a candidate must also have an acceptable points in the UTME and Post UTME.

Through Direct Entry (DE)

Candidates must possess a two-year or three-year Diploma Certificate in Law at Credit level plus credit in three (3) papers, including English language and English Literature in the S.S.S. Certificate examination or G.C.E. O Level or their equivalent; or
At least ten (10) points in I. J.M.B.; G.C.E. A level or Merit in ADLS, together with credit in at least 3 papers including English Language in S.S.S. certificate examination or GCE 'O' Level or their equivalent. At least Any other equivalent qualification approved by the University.

Current Students

Registration

All students of the Faculty can register up to 24 credits per semester except level 200 students who can register up to 26 credits in 1st Semester only.

  1. A student must register liar courses which will allow him to obtain his degree in 10 semesters (5 consecutive academic sessions) and in no case can he attend the programme for more than 14 semesters (7 consecutive academic sessions). However a student who is exempted from level 100 courses must register for courses which will allow him to obtain his degree in 8 semesters (4 consecutive academic sessions) and in no case can he attend the programme for more than 12 semesters (6 consecutive academic sessions).

  2. Normally a student should register for 18 credits per semester. However, a maximum number of 24 credits per semester will he allowed with the approval of the faculty.

  3. Owing to constraints of stalling, facilities and time-table scheduling, the Faculty cannot guarantee to offer in all cases, the full range of elective courses. The Faculty may if it deems necessary, require a minimum number of reqistration before an elective course can be offered.

  4. Registration for the elective course in a programme in each session must be completed within the period specified by the Faculty. Withdrawal from registration for a course will not normally be permitted after one fifth of the course has been given.

  5. A core or compulsory course is one designated as such by the Faculty of law Bayero University and one which every registered student in the Faculty must oiler. An optional or elective course is one designated as such by the Faculty of law Bayero University, Kano.

  6. The list of optional course contains a range of Course which is not exhaustive, an optional course is offered subject to the availability of staff.
